Black + White + Rewind All Over

Posted by Rebels in ARTISTS, FEATURING, GIGS, NEWS

The Paper Raincoat is brought to you by imagination and Rebel Spirit Music was lucky to witness an impromptu performance that brings us back to the beginning when they played our 1 year anniversary showcase at Rockwood Music Hall. Over the last few years, the members of this eclectic group of talent have made a massive impact on the singer/songwriter community producing and touring the world with Vienna Teng {Alex Wong}, Brandon Flower {Adam Christgau}, The Virgins and Miranda Cosgrove {Kevin Rice}. Amber Rubarth, the sweetheart of the music scene, has been busy writing lullabies with Jason Mraz and the Grammy winner  popped on stage for a two song duet during an intimate Rockwood set; but Mraz wasn’t the only star in the audience who Amber called up for a cameo. Jason Blynn of Harper Blynn rocked a Tom Petty cover, Ian Axel graced us with his ukelele, Adam Levy, Nate Campany plus Rosi Golan are just a few of the talented artists who took turns providing harmonious support for a captivated audience full of stars.

Rebel Spirit looked more permanent then ever IN Flux Studios last month with their new monthly event drawing over 200 people to the studio and rooftop of the landmark building in the East Village where Queen Eville’s team mixes and masters the art of recording. Live music streamed from the studio up to the rooftop for all to hear the talent of Derek James, Ian Axel, Findlay Brown with special guest Jon Solo and Shakespeare. Each artist brought with them their own musical tinge. Attendees enjoyed gourmet jello shots from The Jello Shot girl and purchased t shirts with the ever ironic slogans thought up and designed by up and comer Children of Privilege. The guest list was tight, but those who did RSVP made it up to the top to enjoy the wonder that is Rebel Spirit Music INFlux. Be sure to RSVP for the next event, we have a very special night brewing for our buddies and babes!!!

Support Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders * Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization working in more than 60 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe. Danit Aronson has been working on raising funds for this organization since the recent tragedy in Haiti ~ here are the reasons why she is July’s Rebel With A Cause:

Q. WHO are you fighting for?

A. The Haitian People.

Q. WHAT motivated you to get involved?

A. My family comes from Haiti and I still have many relatives living there.  I hear firsthand stories of the struggles in Haiti on a regular basis and want to contribute in whatever way I can.  Haiti is a very corrupt country and monetary contributions- although thoughtful- do not end up helping the Haitian people as often as we’d like.  I would prefer to support doctors who can go to Haiti and directly impact the well being of Haitian people in need help.  My family in Haiti has repeatedly told me of the good work done by Doctors Without Borders, who have been on the ground in Haiti for many years-  so I have chosen to support them in their endeavors.

Q. WHEN did you begin to take initiative?

A. January ~ after the catastrophic earthquake.

Q. WHERE can people go to make a contribution?

A. You can make a donation by visiting DANIT HAITI on FIRST GIVING.

Q. HOW will you continue to raise awareness in the future?

A. Beyond events- i am also selling t-shirts designed by artists from around the world with a variety of  support messages for Haiti.  T-shirts are a great way to perpetuate awareness around a cause and keep a message alive.  If you would like to buy a t-shirt please visit MulteePurpose and search “I Heart Haiti.”
